What makes Poznan a unique Erasmus+ destination?
A vibrant student city
Poznan is one of Poland’s main academic centres, known for its large student population, lively atmosphere, and international environment.
A city of history and tradition
As one of the oldest cities in Poland, Poznan played an important role in the origins of the Polish state and preserves a rich historical heritage.
Famous Poznan Goats
One of the city’s best-known traditions is the mechanical goats that appear every day at noon on the Town Hall clock tower. The goats are inseparable from the Town Hall, and the ritual has become part of Poznan’s civic identity rather than a tourist add-on.
The Musical Capital Of Poland
Poznan is the most important city in Poland for all musicians. One of the country’s best choirs are practicing and performing there. Every 5 years, the world-famous violin competition takes place in the city. Many talented musicians were connected with Poznan. Poznan is one of the oldest and largest cities in Poland. It is the historical capital of the Wielkopolska Region, where the Polish State was born 1000 years ago. The origins of the city date back to the 9th century, when a castle-town, the seat of one of the ruling Duke's, was established in Ostrów Tumski on the right bank of the Warta River in the flood basin of the Warta and Cybina Rivers.
A Little History
Poznan is considered one of the birthplaces of the Polish nation. The first Polish rulers were connected to the region, making the city historically significant.
The oldest part of Poznan, Ostrów Tumski (Cathedral Island), dates back to the 10th century and became an important religious and political centre.
Thanks to its strategic location between Berlin and Warsaw, Poznań developed into an important commercial and industrial city.
Today, Poznan combines historical heritage with a modern cultural scene, hosting festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and international events throughout the year.
Let's get to the good part, shall we?
The cuisine of Poznan combines traditional Polish flavours with modern gastronomy. The city’s most famous speciality is the St. Martin’s Croissant (Rogal Świętomarciński), a sweet pastry filled with white poppy seeds and nuts.
Visitors can also enjoy traditional dishes such as pierogi (filled dumplings), żurek (sour rye soup), and regional meat dishes. Around the Old Town, travellers will find cosy cafés, craft beer pubs, modern restaurants, and lively food markets.
