Barcelona has a rich history dating back more than 2,000 years. Originally founded as a Roman settlement known as Barcino, the city developed into an important Mediterranean port thanks to its strategic coastal location. Over the centuries, Barcelona was shaped by Roman, Visigothic, Moorish, and Catalan influences, creating a unique blend of cultures, architecture, and traditions that still define the city today.
A Little History
During the Middle Ages, Barcelona became a major Mediterranean trading and maritime power within the Crown of Aragon.
Barcelona began as the Roman colony Barcino in the 1st century BC, and parts of the ancient Roman walls can still be seen today.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the city flourished culturally and architecturally through the Modernist movement led by Antoni Gaudí.
Today, Barcelona is one of Europe’s most visited cities, known for its culture, innovation, beaches, and international atmosphere.
Let's get to the good part, shall we?
Barcelona’s cuisine combines Catalan and Mediterranean flavors, with tapas bars serving seafood, jamón, patatas bravas, and fresh market products. Try local dishes like paella, pan con tomate, and seafood tapas, paired with Catalan wines or vermouth.
