Course Summary
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as “a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community”. Mental health is more than the absence of mental disorders; it is an integral part of a person’s overall health and well-being.
Mental health is about our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Mental health is important throughout all our lives. Individuals and communities can support those in need by understanding mental health, recognizing the factors that influence it, and being aware of common mental disorders.
We can contribute to a healthier, more resilient society by promoting mental health through education. Mental health plays a crucial role in the overall development of students and in their success at school. Besides places of learning, schools are also environments where children and adolescents develop social skills, self-esteem, and resilience. As mental health awareness grows, it is essential that educational institutions prioritize mental wellbeing alongside academic achievement.
“Mental Health and Schools” is designed to provide educators, administrators and school staff with the knowledge and tools necessary to create a supportive and inclusive environment for mental health and well-being in educational settings.
By the end of the course, participants will have a deeper understanding of the importance of mental health in education and will be equipped with practical tools and strategies to support the mental well-being of their students. Together, we can plan a school environment where every student can thrive both academically and emotionally.
We look forward to embarking on this journey with you and making a positive impact on the mental health and well-being of students in our schools.
