Course Summary
Positive psychology is the scientific study of strengths and conditions that enable individuals and communities to thrive. This specialist course applies the PERMA framework: Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment to education, together with strengths-based practice, hope, gratitude and positive institutions. It clearly distinguishes wellbeing from forced happiness and avoids toxic positivity, cultural prescription and the denial of genuine difficulty.
Course objectives
- Understand the foundations, scope and limits of positive psychology and positive education;
- Explore practical educational applications of the PERMA framework;
- Use strengths-based approaches without labelling learners or ignoring difficulty;
- Develop classroom practices that support engagement, relationships, hope, meaning and accomplishment;
- Design sustainable wellbeing routines for students, educators and school communities;
- Create an ethical, evidence-informed flourishing plan with appropriate indicators.
Course Goals
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain positive psychology as more than happiness or positive thinking.
- Use PERMA to analyse a learning environment or staff-wellbeing context.
- Facilitate strengths identification and strengths-based feedback responsibly.
- Design activities that develop engagement, positive relationships, meaning and accomplishment.
- Apply gratitude, hope and savouring practices appropriately and inclusively.
- Recognise toxic positivity, cultural differences, safeguarding boundaries and referral needs.
- Produce a classroom or whole-school flourishing plan with realistic implementation indicators.
Daily Program
DAY 1
- Welcome session and institutional presentation;
- Icebreaking and intercultural networking activities;
- Introduction to Erasmus+ priorities and European educational policies;
- The role of educational staff in digital transformation and lifelong learning;
- Overview of the course objectives, methodologies and collaborative activities.
DAY 2
- Clarify the field, evidence and limitations;
- Distinguish flourishing from happiness and symptom reduction;
- Explore PERMA and multiple routes to wellbeing;
- Audit current wellbeing practice ethically.
DAY 3
- Identify character strengths without labelling;
- Explore strengths use, overuse and context;
- Design challenge–skill balance and flow conditions;
- Create a strengths-based learning activity.
DAY 4
- Build belonging, connection and mattering ;
- Use gratitude, kindness and strengths-based feedback ;
- Include repair, boundaries and emotional honesty;
- Design a relationship-enhancing routine.
DAY 5
- Connect learning with values and contribution;
- Use hope pathways and agency thinking;
- Design meaningful goals, mastery and celebration ;
- Create a purpose-rich learning sequence.
DAY 6
- Explore positive institutions and enabling conditions;
- Recognise toxic positivity and cultural differences;
- Select proportionate wellbeing indicators;
- Present a classroom or whole-school flourishing plan;
- Certification Ceremony.

The daily schedule/ program describes likely activities but may differ based on the trainer's discretion and objectives.
Classes are scheduled for either the morning or afternoon, based on the provider's preference.
