Course Summary
This course gives educators practical tools to help learners question assumptions, analyse evidence, frame problems, evaluate options and make better decisions. It avoids excessive theory and turns critical thinking into visible classroom routines, discussion protocols and authentic challenges.
Participants will experience the methods first, apply them to real educational situations and leave with a sequence that can be used across subjects, age groups and school contexts.
Course Goals
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Distinguish between recall, opinion, reasoning, evidence and judgement;
- Create questions that stimulate analysis, comparison, inference and evaluation;
- Facilitate structured classroom discussions and problem-solving tasks;
- Use simple tools such as root-cause analysis, decision matrices and criteria-based evaluation;
- Help students identify assumptions, biases and weak arguments;
- Design learning tasks around authentic problems and constraints;
- Assess critical-thinking processes using clear rubrics;
- Transfer critical-thinking routines to their own school context;
- Promote intercultural awareness;
- Transfer and share core values, experiences and effective teaching practices with other teachers and colleagues;
- Improve technical and English language, communication and social skills.
Daily Program
DAY 1
Cross-Cultural Exchange, Educational Context & Course Orientation
- Pre-Session work: Self Preparation to share your school’s context, cultural background and completion of the Cultural Quiz.
- Welcome Session: Networking between participants and Erasmus+ team
- Icebreaking activities and sharing of European core values.
- Open space for participants to share ideas and discuss current challenges in the Education sector; collaborative opportunity to exchange future goals.
- Week briefing and planning.
DAY 2
Making thinking visible
- Upgrade closed prompts into analytical questions.
- Facilitate Socratic dialogue using follow-up moves.
- Map claims, reasons, and evidence credibility.
- Activity: Questioning toolkit and discussion task.
DAY 3
Questions, arguments and evidence
- Distinguish recall from reasoning and evidence.
- Expose assumptions in short school cases.
- Practice visible thinking routines like
- See-Think-Wonder.
- Design a Critical-thinking needs map.
DAY 4
Problem framing and root-cause analysis
- Separate visible symptoms from underlying causes.
- Map stakeholder perspectives and needs.
- Apply 5 Whys and constraint mapping.
- Output: Completed problem-framing template.
DAY 5
Decision-making and solution design
- Generate alternative solutions using reverse brainstorming.
- Weight decision criteria in transparent matrices.
- Build low-cost prototypes and pre-mortems.
- Problem-solving activity and proposal.
DAY 6
Classroom implementation and assessment
Sequence critical thinking learning routines.
Rehearse facilitation with peer feedback.
Course Roundup, Evaluation & Review.
Erasmus+ documents validation & Certification.

The daily schedule/ program describes likely activities but may differ based on the trainer's discretion and objectives.
Classes are scheduled for either the morning or afternoon, based on the provider's preference.
