“Getting students to talk is the major and one of the most difficult tasks confronting any teacher of languages” (Prof. Christoph N. Candlin).
In modern, multicultural European classrooms, moving beyond rote grammar to foster spontaneous, confident communication in English is essential for student success.
This course provides English language educators with a rich repository of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) techniques, interactive resources, and task-based learning activities. Participants explore hands-on methodologies to boost student motivation, including educational games, cooperative storytelling, role-plays, art integration, and authentic multimedia assets like songs, films, and digital web resources.
Aligned with European Education Area goals for multilingualism and key competences for lifelong learning. teachers return to their home institutions refreshed and empowered with creative strategies to transform challenging language classes into lively, communicative learning spaces.
Course Goals
As a result of attending this course, the participants will feel more knowledgeable and confident in their daily teaching once all the activities are directed to motivate students to communicate.
Learning outcomes:
- Apply Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) principles and task-based methodologies to increase student speaking confidence and interaction.
- Design interactive lesson plans incorporating educational games, role-plays, cooperative storytelling, and art-based activities for varied proficiency levels.
- Integrate authentic multimedia resources-including films, songs, literature, and digital web tools to enrich listening comprehension and vocabulary acquisition.
- Conduct targeted learner needs analyses and goal-setting strategies to support differentiated language learning in diverse classrooms.
- Embed intercultural learning dimensions and European core values into foreign language curricula.
- Collaborate with English Language Teaching professionals to exchange best practices, adapt innovative methodologies, and enhance professional English fluency.
- Improve technical and English language, communication and social skills.
Daily Program
DAY 1
Cross-Cultural Exchange, European Educational Context & Course Orientation
- Pre-Session work: Self Preparation to share your school’s context, cultural background and completion of the Cultural Quiz.
- Welcome Session: Networking between participants and Erasmus+ team
- Icebreaking activities and sharing of European core values.
- Open space for participants to share ideas and discuss current challenges in the Education sector; collaborative opportunity to exchange future goals (activity).
- Week briefing and planning.
DAY 2
Needs Analysis, Language Acquisition & Gamified Communication
- Learner needs analysis, diagnostic techniques, goal setting in ELT
- Re-evaluating the role of spontaneous communication in foreign language acquisition
- Addressing student anxiety, building speaking confidence.
DAY 3
Interpersonal Dynamics & Intercultural Pedagogy
- Deepening interpersonal communication strategies between facilitators and learners
- Active listening, scaffolding spontaneous dialogue, error-correction etiquette
- Integrating intercultural learning in ELT routines.
DAY 4
Storytelling, Literature & Multimedia Integration
- Adapting literature and cooperative storytelling for communicative speaking tasks
- Utilizing authentic films, songs, and audio assets to boost listening and conversational fluency
- Practical field project.
DAY 5
Creative Arts, Role-Play & Digital ELT Tools
- Incorporating visual arts and drama-based role-plays to stimulate creative expression
- Exploring modern web resources, interactive language apps, collaborative platforms
- Designing multi-sensory language tasks.
DAY 6
Collaborative Showcase, Reflection & Certification
- Group work workshop: developing and presenting participant communicative activity units
- Reflection on cross-cultural ELT methodologies and dissemination planning
- Course Roundup, Evaluation & Review
- Erasmus documents validation and Certification.
