Course Summary

Digital Storytelling is a way of organizing information, conveying emotions, and building community, using a series of still images or short videos combined with a narrated soundtrack to tell a story (Bull & Kadjer, 2004).

Although mobile technology is not yet widely used in schools, and in some cases even prohibited by internal regulations, it is a hallmark of contemporary life and a powerful tool that challenges teachers and students to innovate in teaching and learning practices.

This course aims to contribute to the understanding of this phenomenon and harness its potential for developing Digital Storytelling.

Objectives: This course provides knowledge about this innovative pedagogical approach, exploring its advantages and disadvantages, while offering practical guidance on using video tools effectively in the classroom to implement Digital Storytelling.

Course Goals

Learning outcomes:

  • Know what a Digital Storytelling innovative pedagogical scenario is;
  • Know the pedagogical potential of a Digital Storytelling innovative pedagogical scenario;
  • Understand the different roles of a Digital Storytelling innovative pedagogical scenario;
  • Design pedagogical activities using Digital Storytelling;
  • Produce a Digital Storytelling;
  • Improve ICT skills;
  • Reinforce self and cultural awareness as a European citizen;
  • Apply and/or adapt different concepts, ideas, and teaching methodologies to the ones practised in their home country;
  • Facilitate experience and cultural exchanges between European participants and Portuguese teaching personnel, which results in a fruitful international experience
  • Enhance communicative competencies in English and social skills;
  • Promote intercultural awareness;
  • Learn more about Portugal’s and Porto’s culture, heritage and society;
  • Identify & share good practices that can be implemented at a local level.

Daily Program

DAY 1

• Self Preparation for a short School presentation on Day 2

• Cultural Quiz (to be filled out pre-session) • Welcome Session - Networking between participants and Erasmus+ team

• Sharing of European core values

• Open space for participants to share ideas and discuss current challenges in the Education sector; collaborative opportunity to exchange future goals (activity)

•  Icebreaking, dinner, week briefing and planning

The daily schedule/ program describes likely activities but may differ based on the trainer's discretion and objectives. Classes are scheduled for either the morning or afternoon, based on the provider's preference.
