Course Summary
For principals and school management, data security is no longer just a technical issue: it is a critical legal and ethical responsibility. This high-level course ensures that your institution is fully compliant and safe from the growing threat of data breaches and GDPR violations.
From managing student records to navigating the privacy implications of AI tools, this course provides a “Shield” for your school. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of the EU legal landscape and a practical roadmap to audit and secure their own institutional systems.
The course follows a practice-oriented and collaborative approach, consistent with Erasmus+ KA1 training standards.
Course Goals
Learning Outcomes:
- Master the core principles of GDPR specifically applied to educational environments;
- Conduct a “Privacy Audit” of current school software and communication platforms;
- Develop protocols for handling sensitive student data (SEN, health, and disciplinary records);
- Identify and mitigate common cybersecurity threats like phishing and data leaks;
- Create an Institutional Data Privacy Policy that satisfies National Agency requirements;
- Improve ICT and management skills within an international peer group;
- Reinforce self and cultural awareness as a European citizen;
- Enhance communicative competencies in English and social skills;
- Facilitate experience exchange with school leaders from across Europe.
Daily Program
DAY 1
• Course Introduction and Icebreaking;
• The Legal Landscape: GDPR in European Education 2026;
• The AI Act Intersection: Understanding new legal obligations for "High-Risk" AI systems in educational grading and admissions.
DAY 2
• Data Mapping: Identifying where school data lives and where it is most vulnerable;
• ICT Supply-Chain Security: Auditing hidden data paths in third-party EdTech apps and cloud-based student management systems;
• Safe Tools: Auditing apps and AI platforms for classroom use.
DAY 3
• Understanding "Privacy by Design”;
• The Principal’s Role: Leading a culture of cybersecurity;
• Staff training and parental consent frameworks.
DAY 4
• Assume-Breach Leadership: Shifting from passive protection to "Cyber-Resilience" and school-wide response simulations (Red-Teaming);
• Crisis Management: What to do when a breach occurs (Reporting obligations and legal documentation);
• Post-Breach Communication Strategy: Managing institutional reputation and transparent reporting to parents.
DAY 5
• Final Institutional Action Plan: Validating school safety protocols;
• Course round and review;
• Learning validation;
• Certification Ceremony.
