Course Summary
Inclusive education requires moving beyond a “one-size-fits-all” approach to ensure every learner achieves their personal, academic, and socio-emotional potential. Students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, dyslexia, sensory processing variations, motor difficulties, and emotional challenges, require tailored pedagogical support and strategic early interventions to thrive in mainstream classrooms.
This course equips classroom teachers, teaching assistants, support specialists, and school leaders with actionable tools to create accessible, barrier-free learning environments. Participants explore evidence-based strategies, structured teaching for neurodiverse learners, positive behavior support, cross-curricular project-based learning, and expressive drama and art activities.
Course Goals
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify early risk factors, atypical developmental milestones, and learning barriers across diverse SEND categories (neurodiversity, sensory, motor, emotional, intellectual, and high ability).
- Apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and structured teaching frameworks in mainstream settings.
- Integrate accessible EdTech, assistive applications, Microsoft/Google accessibility tools, and multi-sensory learning resources to reduce cognitive load.
- Design differentiated lesson plans, task-based learning units, and adaptation strategies that actively engage all learners while maintaining high standards.
- Formulate collaborative family-engagement strategies and early intervention service plans to establish parents as key partners in education.
- Develop non-confrontational classroom management, conflict resolution, and emotional self-regulation interventions for students displaying behavioral or socio-emotional difficulties.
- Collaborate with European special education professionals to share inclusive practices, promote intercultural awareness, and enhance professional English communication skills.
Daily Program
DAY 1
Cross-Cultural Exchange, European Educational Context & Course Orientation
- Pre-Session work: Self Preparation to share your school’s context, cultural background and completion of the Cultural Quiz.
- Welcome Session: Networking between participants and Erasmus+ team
- Icebreaking activities and sharing of European core values.
- Open space for participants to share ideas and discuss current challenges in the Education sector; collaborative opportunity to exchange future goals (activity).
- Week briefing and planning.
DAY 2
Foundations of SEND, Inclusion Frameworks & Diagnostic Awareness
- Introduction to SEND concepts: medical vs. social models of disability
- Analyzing integration, inclusion, mainstreaming, identifying early risk factors
- Physical, psychiatric, emotional, learning differences.
DAY 3
Specific SEND Categories, Neurodiversity Strategies & Parental Partnerships
- Differentiated approaches in inclusive classrooms
- Structured learning environments, visual schedules, self-esteem exercises
- Parents as active educational partners.
DAY 4
Barrier Reduction, Behavioral Support, Art & Drama Interventions
- Addressing intellectual disabilities, emotional issues, behavioral disorders through positive behavior support
- Classroom de-escalation techniques
- Utilizing drama, visual arts, multi-sensory activities.
DAY 5
Assistive Technology, Accessible EdTech & Differentiated Task Design
- Gifted and talented education: creative thinking through Task-Based and Experiential Learning
- Digital tools for SEND: Microsoft Accessibility Suite, Google add-ons, OER
- Reducing cognitive load.
DAY 6
Inclusive School Action Planning, Project Presentation & Certification
- Assessing responsibilities of teachers and leadership in implementing school-wide SEND policies
- Collaborative project studio: presentation and peer review of Inclusive Classroom Action Plans
- Course Roundup, Evaluation & Review
- Erasmus documents validation and Certification.
