KA1 COURSE

SUCCESS IN SCHOOLS – FOCUS ON TEACHERS' WELL-BEING

Course summary

Several international studies have concluded that many teachers in various European countries suffer from mental, physical and psychological tiredness as a consequence of the daily difficulties of their profession.

In fact, the growing phenomena of:

  • student indiscipline;

  • students’ families lack of involvement in supporting the school in its teaching mission;

  • school violence;

  • bullying;

  • frustration that comes from the institutional inability to act in these situations in a timely manner;

  • bureaucratic burden and lack of time to prepare classroom content;

  • social devaluation of the teacher's role and authority.

These are some of the factors that make this profession one of the most difficult to maintain and highly exposed to vulnerability factors. We all know that it is not possible to maintain the current erosion of teachers’ identity, nor the current unsustainable levels of stress and burnout in the teaching profession. The consequences for the education system, for the intellectual development of new generations and for the teachers’ professional and personal life are many and serious.

Therefore, this course aims to master a set of practices and factors that can mitigate or prevent these processes - of personal and professional erosion, as well as the increasing vulnerability in teachers’ everyday life.
